unicorns are found in forests that have large acerage, anywhere they can keep themsleves hidden and animals are abundant and humans are kept to the minimum. Though most popularized and discussed sightings are from USA and Europe, though from lesser accounts and considering their habits and preferences, they likely also reside in bamboo forests, empty deserts and more dangerouse tropical forests. Some have supposedly been spotted on empty islands, though how they got there is completely unknown.

there is a myth that unicorns create a 'forever spring' in the forest they reside in. This, as far as possible, has been observed to be untrue and likely against the unicorns wishes. A 'forever spring' would throw off the health of the animals and plants of the forest, and unicorns, of course, would dislike that.
